U-14 Football team Cup Final
Knightswood under 14's football team came close to tasting glory in the Crookston Cup Final against a tough Bannerman High side, in an intriguing encounter that went all the way to a gruelling lottery of penalties. But alas, hearts were sunk as Knightswood failed to convert two of their five penalties whilst Bannerman only failed once from the spot.Bannerman High kicked off proceedings and it was obvious even in the early stages that a goal fest was on the cards as the game quickly went into full throttle. Knightswood had the first chance of the game, narrowly missing the target with a quality free kick that just went over the woodwork. Both sides tested the defences but the back lines stood firm and the first half remained goalless. After an inspiring team talk from manager Mr. Diver, Knightswood took an early lead through David Collins after a scramble in the box but Bannerman hit back straight from the kick off to level the scoreline. Bannerman then took the lead with a goal that Knightswood disputed as an offside but the goal stood. This seemed to knock the stuffing out of Knightswood and the job was made even harder when captain Graham McKay was sent off. As they came up against the brick wall defence of Bannerman, it didn't look good for the Knightswood boys but as the dying seconds ticked away they were handed a lifeline with a last gasp penalty. Alexander Donaghy converted the spot kick to take the game into extra time. Knightswood dominated the proceedings of an energy sapping first half of extra time but failed to take advantage and as the half time whistle blew the teams were locked at 2-2.Bannerman started the second half well and took the lead with a half volley from six yards. The tired legs of Knightswood kept going and were rewarded near the end with a second penalty. Alexander Donaghy converted again to take the pulsating second half into spot kicks. As the tension grew and the drama unfolded the Knightswood boys just came up short after a fantastic effort from the whole team and just lost by the skin of their teeth and the glory of the Crookston Cup was gone. New "Knightswood Sport" Web site
Mr Grant of the Maths Department has teamed up with an ex-pupil to produce a web site dedicated to following the the activities of our school's football teams. Although parts of the site are still under construction, it is now complete enough to be launched. This is an entirely new site and not part of the existing official school site. The web site can be found at www.kss-sport.co.uk.

Fond Farewells...

Alan Grant came to Knightswood as a pupil in 1995. He liked it so much that he came back as a Student Teacher, and then as a new Maths Teacher in August 2007. He has made a significant impact and will be missed by both pupils and staff. He will be taking up a new 1 year post in Jordanhill School. We wish him all the very best for his future career. See Alan as a pupil in his entry for the School's 2000 year book.
Eilean Carlin came to Knightswood in January 1997.
During her time at Knightswood Eilean has made a significant contribution to making the Learning Support Department one of the most effective in Scotland. She has helped many pupils achieve their ambitions and provided excellent support to all other Departments. Eilean introduced a number of support initiatives which have raised the attainment of those pupils coming into her Department. Eilean will be hard to replace and we wish her a long and well earned retirement.
Ian MacLeod arrived at Knightswood, as a new teacher in August 2005. He made a great impression, enjoying success with the U18's in the Scottish Cup final in April. He worked in Canada for a year expanding his experience, before coming back to us in August 2007. He has been a great help in the Maths department. Ian is now off again to teach in Edinburgh. Ian will be missed by both pupils and staff. We wish him all the very best for his future career!
Janette Knight arrived in Knightswood Secondary School in August 1998, after the close of Victoria Drive Secondary School, as an Assistant Principal Teacher of Guidance. She became Principal Teacher of Pastoral Care in 2003. Janette has made a significant contribution to both Food Technology and Pastoral Care. All her collegues wish her a long and happy retirement.

Roy Dalgetty joined Knightswood in 1991. He had already spent 16 years in Airdrie Academy and has now completed 17 years here in Knightswood both as a Maths teacher and Principal teacher of Pastoral Care. Staff and pupils will miss his unique brand of teaching but wish him many happy years of retirement.
Sandra Steele has been an institution in the Maths department for over 9 years and first started her teaching practice here in 1968. Since then, she has travelled to John Street (Glasgow), Niagra Falls (Canada), Victoria Drive, Garthamlock, Possil Park and Crookston Castle Secondaries. Out of them all, Knightswood is the only one that currently remains open!
Sandra will be very sorely missed by the pupils and staff. We wish her a fantastic and relaxing retirement, well deserved after so much hard work.
Pamela Williams joined our school in March 2003 as a teacher of maths, science and physics. Recently all of Pamela's time was spent teaching science and physics although she made friends across the school in her time with us. Pamela is moving to Canada to take up the challenge of a new country with her family. Pamela will be fondly remembered by all the staff who were fortunate to work beside her.
Sheena Geddes has been part of the staff at KSS for 23 years. Arriving from Govan High school, she was originally, a hybrid English/French teacher, but her PT French, recognising her talent, soon persuaded her to join the Modern Languages department on a full-time basis. A very proficient linguist, she has taught French, German and Spanish from S1 to S6 and the odd bit of Italian.
Those pupils fortunate enough to have been in her class, reach the highest standards academically, she insists on best efforts, but they also very much enjoy her abundant sense of fun. What more could a parent ask, than that their child will get the best possible grade in their exams, and also enjoy the learning required to reach that goal. Pupils respect Sheena Geddes, her standards are high, but all of her pupils know she is on their side. Her colleagues and friends, of which she has many, will resoundly second that sentiment.
Roger Walker taught in the History Department in Knightswood Secondary for almost 20 years. For 2 years of that time he led the department as Acting Principal Teacher of History after the retiral of Sandy Flockhart. He was a keen supporter of History initiatives in the school such as the St Andrew's Day celebrations and Holocaust Memorial Day. We wish him a healthy and active retirement.

Former Pupil Site
If you are a former pupil of Knightswood Secondary I would encourage you to visit the Former Pupil Website created and maintained by Rosemary Young (herself an ex-pupil of the school). On the site you will be able to register messages and get in touch with old school pals all for no fee (unlike friends reunited). There is also a huge amount of old photograph waiting to be seen (thanks to John Lightbody for posting these images).
